Our next batch has been released (December 2025), after 5 1/2 years in barrel.
Not just any barrel, this one comes out of two Tonnellerie Chassin barrels, made by master cooper Stephane Chassin in Burgundy - Stephane grew up in Cognac, where they know a thing or two about brandy barrels and took his skills to Burgundy to make wine barrels. For this batch we used two tight grain Chardonnay barrels after they had been used for 5 years for Chardonnay - this takes out a lot of the tanin, leaving a mellow and delicate barrel - perfect for both aging and finishing our fine apple spirit.
Introducing Lobodos, our latest apple brandy that’s been five years in the making and is ready to take your taste buds on an unforgettable journey. Crafted with passion and a dash of innovation, this South Australian gem is the result of Lobo’s dedication and a bit of dream-weaving.
Our story starts with some of Lobo’s finest cider and a fruitful chat with a top whiskey maker. From there, we double-distilled our cider in a traditional copper pot still, then aged it in French oak barrels for many years. The result? An apple brandy that’s as rich in flavour as it is in history.
In France, apple brandy goes by the name Calvados. We’re calling ours Lobodos, which means “Twice the Wolf”—a nod to our commitment to crafting something truly exceptional.
Lobodos isn’t just a drink; it’s an experience. Recently recognised as one of the Best Australian Spirits Top 20, it’s been described by Nick Ryan as having “the spices that top an apple crumble and the fruit beneath, an oak maturation character that hints at an orchard shed, and a lovely dryness that lingers on the finish.”
